Minister of Music

Position: Minister of Music

Status: Part-Time, 20 hours per week

Pay: Negotiated


The Minister of Music plans, coordinates, and executes music for parish liturgies, ensuring high-quality, prayerful worship that encourages full congregational participation. Responsibilities include directing choirs/musicians, ability to accompany on organ or piano, selecting repertoire aligned with liturgical seasons, managing music resources, and collaborating with clergy to align with church traditions. The Minister of Music reports to and works closely with the pastor. 


Key Responsibilities

  • Planning & Execution: Selects and coordinates all music for Sunday Masses, Holy Days, funerals, weddings, and special liturgies.
  • Leadership & Direction: Rehearses and directs choirs, cantors, and instrumental ensembles to ensure musical proficiency
  • Administration: Coordinates all communication with choirs/musicians, manages the music library, oversees licensing/copyright compliance
  • Collaboration: Works with clergy, liturgists, and staff to align music with the liturgical calendar and overall parish mission.
  • Recruitment: Identifies and trains volunteer musicians and cantors.
  • Leads the Sacred Worship Committee: plan meetings, create agendas, and take and distribute minutes. 
  • Youth Choir: work in collaboration with the Youth Choir director for Liturgy planning and scheduling.

Qualifications

  • Strong competency in Catholic liturgical theology, traditions, and documents.
  • Proficiency in organ or piano, and vocal conducting.
  • Experience in music ministry management.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a pastoral environment.
